The Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force has shared some tips and tricks to prevent crime in St Kitts and Nevis. The authorities have acknowledged the increase in the number and frequency of robberies, larcenies, and thefts in the country. They have also shared that the statistics they have recorded are troubling. They shared that the Royal St Christopher and Nevis team is monitoring the incidents. They are taking strategic steps to address the issues of crime and related incidents.
While the police Force are trying to address the crime incidents, including robberies, larcenies, and thefts, they have urged the country’s people to exercise precautions. Accordingly, the team has shared a list of preventive measures to protect people from being targeted by a criminal.
These precautions shared by the police force include the following:
- Do not leave [small] items of value in your vehicle(s). These include (but are not limited to) cash, coins, keys, glasses, sunglasses, hats, clothing, bags, wallets, purses, phones, and electronics;
- When leaving your vehicle(s) unattended, make a considerable effort to park in open spaces where your vehicle(s) is/are either visible from multiple angles, in plain view, or illuminated by street lighting;
- If/where possible, avoid parking in isolated areas, especially at night;
- Always ensure your vehicle(s) is/are completely locked before leaving it/them unattended;
- Always activate your vehicle(s)’ alarm (if one is installed) before leaving it/them unattended;
- If/where possible, arrange for a family member or friend to check on your vehicle intermittently;
- Call your nearest Police station or 911 and make a report if you see a crime in progress. If you see something, say something.
The team of Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force shared that during the summer months, the country engages in a large number of festivals, fetes and social gatherings. As such, the criminal elements feel safe executing various illegal activities. The team has, accordingly, urged the citizens to remain vigilant. They are expected to exercise caution, especially when they are leaving their vehicles unattended for extended periods of time.
