The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, took to his social media account to share some glimpses of his visit to the primary healthcare institution of St Kitts and Nevis. He “stopped by the hospital” on June 2, 2023, to check on the Emergency Medical Technicians. The EMTs started the second phase of the EMS training course earlier this week.

The Prime Minister shared that during his most recent visit, he took the opportunity to share several words of encouragement with the Emergency Medical Technicians for the start of the new initiative. Medical Technicians are an important part of St Kitts and Nevis’s healthcare sector. Accordingly, the Government of St Kitts and Nevis organized the EMT week in honour of the Medical technicians of the staff.

The Prime Minister also handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Health, national security and social security. In discharging his duties as the Minister of Health, Dr Drew regularly visits the healthcare establishment. Dr Terrance Drew stated that with the second phase of the EMS Training, the EMTs are gaining important skills training to improve their CPR skills.

PM Dr Terrance Drew added that they are working to enhance their patient evacuation skills from the scene of an accident or an injury and to teach life-saving techniques before getting the patient to the hospital. The Minister of Health was a practising doctor before he ventured into politics. Accordingly, he understands the importance of remaining up-to-date with the provision of medical facilities of the country.

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew stated that the EMTs of St Kitts and Nevis are very excited about this training course. The second phase is being conducted by Matthew Rolph, a former paramedic from the United Kingdom and founder of EMS International. Dr Drew stated that the next step of training will upgrade the basic and intermediate level EMTs to trained paramedics.
