    37 young and aspiring youth of St. Kitts and Nevis have received a scholarship to pursue university education in the Republic of China (Taiwan). The initiative was undertaken in collaboration between St. Kitts and Nevis administration and Taiwan Embassy is St. Kitts and Nevis. According to reports, this year it is one of the largest number of scholarships provided by Taiwan to the federation. The scholarships were presented to the students in a formal ceremony which took place on Saturday August 8, 2026 at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort. The announcement of the scholarship was made by the Embassy Taiwan in St. Kitts and Nevis online on their official social media handle yesterday.  During the ceremony 28 students received scholarships in the 2026 Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and 9 students acquired scholarships in the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) programme. Additionally, from St. Kitts and Nevis the ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister Dr. Terrence Drew and his wife Diani Jimesha Prince-Drew.  Moreover, from St. Kitts and Nevis the Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Minister of foreign Affairs Dr. Denzil Douglas and Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley. From the Taiwan Embassy the ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Edwards Ling-Wen Tai along with other officials from the Embassy. At the ceremony Prime Minister Drew shared his appreciation of the scholarship initiative. He explained the importance of the scholarships to the students and encouraged them to use this opportunity to the fullest as it also helps in the development of the federation. He said, “Students, we have worked hard to get you this many scholarships, we are now saying to you to take advantage of it and make all of us proud. Good Luck and success and we expect to see you home ready to contribute to national development”. The Prime Minister further shared that the administration is working on expanding the numbers of scholarships with Taiwan. He said that he had a discussion with Taiwan President Lai Ching-te on the expansion of the educational scholarship and the result of the discussion led to an increase of numbers from 27 to 40. Additionally, Dr. Drew also made the announcement of a new medical scholarship for the young medical students of the federation. The initiative highlights the administration's ongoing efforts to strengthen the education system and enhance the medical facilities in the federation. Notably, during the ceremony the Deputy Prime Minister also shared his remarks on the initiative and further extended gratitude to the President and Government of the Republic of China Taiwan for their partnership and on the request of the administration of increasing the scholarship numbers for the federation.
