Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis Dr. Terrance Drew, visited the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela at Fortlands, Basseterre. At the embassy he signed the official Book of Condolence in honour of the victims of last month’s devastating earthquakes.
The Prime Minister’s gesture is proof that the twin island federation has continued to stand by their fellow CARICOM state. The Prime Minister extended his condolences on the loss of life that the country has had to endure.
According to the regional experts, the earthquake in Venezuela claimed the lives of more than 4,000 people and led to several thousands more persons being injured and displaced.
The natural disaster caused widespread destruction and profound grief across the country.
When Prime Minister Drew came to the embassy, he was greeted by Acting Chargé d’Affaires ad hoc of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Mr. Rubén Mogollón Munich. He welcomed the Prime Minister warmly and they talked about the natural disaster that wrecked Vemzeula last month.
While signing the Book of Condolence, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government and people of Saint Kitts and Nevis’ deepest sympathies with the Government and people of Venezuela during this period of national mourning. He expressed hope for strength and resilience for the affected families and communities as they continue the difficult process of recovery and rebuilding.
The country, along with the rest of the CARICOM region has taken the responsibility to support Venezuela during this unfortunate period.
The Prime Minister highlighted that he and the CARICOM region firmly stands with one of their own in this time of need and tragedy. The officials have shared that it is important for the leaders across the region to work with each other and handle crises such as this as a single unit.
