The Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley addressed the people of Nevis on the occasion of the country’s 43rd Independence Day Anniversary. The Premier spoke of this year’s theme for independence, “One People, One Vision, Endless Possibility, Independence 43.”
He said that these words were more than a slogan. The Premier called the theme for this year’s celebration a summon, a challenge, an admonition.
In his address, Premier Brantley called on the people to unite with a shared vision and purpose, forging a future where our possibilities are limitless. He acknowledged that the twin island federation is home to people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. In light of these differences, he called on the people of the island to unite to work together, overcome shared challenges, and build a stronger future.
The Premier of Nevis reflected on the date of independence and highlighted that the history of the country is not merely something that the nation has inherited, It is something that the country has to build upon.
Premier Brantley reflected on the successes that the country has seen in the last forty three years of self governance. He highlighted that the country has seen tremendous growth in fields of agriculture, entertainment, tourism, sport, academia, innovation and more.
In the same breathe, he reflected on the challenges that the country has seen in the form of natural disasters and pandemics, economic downturns, and social issues,,
The nation however, remains standing, strong.
The Premier of Nevis further said, ”The future is not guaranteed. It is a responsibility that we must earn. Similarly, our independence does not only confer benefits, it also imposes responsibilities.”
The Premier of Nevis entrusted the nation with the responsibility to be patriotic and productive and to develop and protect the values that have guided the country throughout history.
The Premier of Nevis also asserted that the people and the responsibility to diligently excel at building a stronger and more prosperous St. Kitts and Nevis.
