St Kitts and Nevis has been witnessing a downward trend in crime and violence in the country. During a recent press conference, the officers of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force announced that the nation has seen a 10% decrease in major crimes. According to the same officers, robberies across the island have fallen by 53%. The work done by the Police force of St Kitts and Nevis has also brought the numbers of firearms and ammunition offences down by 53%.
During the press conference, the Police Commissioner, James Sutton also discussed the decrease of the Drug-related offences which were down 13% since last year. The incidents have been some of the most anticipated events in the region.
The officials have shared that in the last year, the nation has seen meaningful growth in the crime management of the country. The officials have shared that Malicious damage offences across the island have decreased by 30%.
Additionally, the breaking offences in the country have also declined by 19% in the last year. The Minister of National Security and Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has reacted to these numbers and appreciated the people of the island for their role in these achievements. He highlighted that the administration’s approach to dealing with crime as a public health concern is guided by the principle of “all hands on deck.”
He added that this approach has been producing meaningful results for the crime management aspect of the country. The Prime Minister shared that this progress reflects the collective efforts of families, communities, schools, churches, social partners, political parties, law enforcement agencies, and all citizens who have chosen peace over violence.
Dr Drew also appreciated the Commissioner of Police James Sutton and the RSCNPF for their efforts in managing crime in the country . The Prime Minister thanked Commander Sutton and the men and women of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, and all other agencies and individuals contributing to this national effort.
