Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew has called for better unity within Africa and the Caribbean. He made these remarks while addressing the fourth edition of the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum in Grenada.
During the Prime Minister’s visit to Grenada with a delegation of officers and government minister Samal Duggins, St Kitts and Nevis has signed two major agreements with the AFREXIM Bank. These two agreements will be helping in the development of the social infrastructure and the agriculture of the country.
In his address, Dr Terrance Drew highlighted how St Kitts and Nevis continues to work for the development of the collaboration and cooperation between Africa and Caribbean. Throughout the forum, Dr Drew advocated for a deeper and more profound relationship with Africa for the Caribbean.
Dr Drew said that St Kitts and Nevis has already taken the steps towards this goal and was the first country to form a partnership with Nigeria to realise their development goals. Officers, members of the government, Businessmen and athletes from Nigeria travelled to the island nation a few months previously.
This delegation discussed collaboration opportunities with St Kitts and Nevis in terms of collaboration opportunities. The Prime Minister highlighted that Nigerian Footballers also travelled to St Kitts and Nevis for a friendly match.
St Kitts and Nevis was also proud to have collaborated with Tanzania and Kenya for their education goals.
All these initiatives are proof of the fact that St Kitts and Nevis is one of the first Nations to take forming relationships with Africa seriously. He has called on the others in the forum to work on this mandate as a unit.
Dr Terrance Drew noted that they have to remove the barriers making trade and investment opportunities difficult between the Caribbean and Africa. One of these barriers are the Visa restrictions which limit the movement between the two regions.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has asserted that it is high time they have to find ways to bridge the divide that exists within the two regions .
