St Kitts and Nevis: Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley has been appointed as the acting Prime Minister of the twin-island Federation in the absence of Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, as he has proceeded on a scheduled vacation leave.

The announcement of Minister Hanley’s appointment as the temporary Prime Minister was made over the weekend through a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The statement that was issued by the PM’s Office announced that PM Drew will be on a scheduled leave and in his absence, Minister Geoffrey Hanley will take the responsibilities and ensure smooth working of the administration.

“The Prime Minister’s Office of St Kitts and Nevis announces that the Honourable Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, will be soon on scheduled personal leave from August 7th to August 21st, 2024. During the Prime Minister’s absence, the Honourable Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Geoffrey Hanley, will assume the responsibilities of Acting Prime Minister,” read the statement.

Acting PM Geoffrey Hanley will oversee the functions of the government, ensuring continuity in leadership and the seamless operation of all state affairs.

Prime Minister Terrance Drew underscored that his leave has been carefully planned in order to ensure minimal disruption to government operations. This action reassures the public of his commitment to addressing the nation’s pressing issues upon his return.

The Prime Minister’s Office also emphasized the government’s dedication to serving the St Kitts and Nevis’s interests with honesty during this time.

Notably, the appointment of Minister Hanley as the PM comes at a very critical time as the nation is facing multiple challenges.
