Larry Vaughn was appointed Plenipotentiary Representative of St Kitts and Nevis to CARICOM. The Ambassador presented his credentials to the leadership of the Caribbean Community on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. During the initiation ceremony, Ambassador Donna Forde, Assistant Secretary-General, Foreign and Community Relations, CARICOM was also present at the ceremony. 

Ambassador Larry Vaughn presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the CARICOM, Dr Carla Barnett. During the ceremony, the Ambassador delievered an address for the CARICOM leadership. In his address, the Ambassador thanked the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew for trusting him with the responsibility for the Ambassadorship. 

He committed to work for the regional and national development of the country. Meanwhile, he also added that he has assumed the responsibility for the ambassadorship close to CARICOM’s 50th year. Accordingly, he acknowledged this is an especially challenging time in the region. He promised to work with the members of the Ambassadors comittee to improve the partnerships between the trade and other areas of cooperation. 

Accordingly, Ambassador Larry Vaughn noted that he wants to work on:

  • Improving competitiveness in all sectors across the CARICOM member-states to achieve more coordinated trade negotiation outcomes, 
  • advocating for global appreciation for the multifaceted nature of our vulnerabilities, 
  • promoting the political stability in each member-state

Further, he accepted the responsibilities that come with the Ambassadorship of the Caribbean Community. he pledged to work on CARICOM’s shared pursuits of economic integration, coordination of foreign policy, human and social development, and security of the member states. 

Ambasador Larry Vaughn asserted that he is looking forward to working with te leadership of the CARICOM, including Secretary General, Carla Barnett and the effectively accommodative staff of the Secretariat

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew took to his social media to congratulate Ambassador Vaughn for his appointment and wished him well for the future.
