May is celebrated as Mental Health Awareness Month across the globe. To commemorate the internationally recognized event, UNICEF, Eastern Caribbean and Let’s Unpack It are coming together to launch a region-wide National Mental Health Focal Points Network. St Kitts and Nevis’ Junior Minister for Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disability shared the update on her social media.

The UNICEF shared that they are looking for young leaders keen to boost mental health awareness. The interested youth ambassadors must be interested in taking action to prioritize child and youth mental health. Mental health is one of the most important topics of discussion worldwide. St Kitts and Nevis have also started to prioritize the discussion of Mental health in their inner circles.

Accordingly, Junior Minister Isalean Philip called on the youth of St Kitts and Nevis to participate in the event. The focal points event is open to all people aged 15-24. The Junior Minister of Youth Empowerment, ageing and disabilities stated that the deadline for the submission of the forms will be Wednesday, May 31. The United Nations International Childrens Emergency Fund has shared some details about the initiative.

The UNICEF shared that they want to bring together driven, passionate young advocates and leaders from various corners of the Caribbean. They seek to discuss and develop initiatives to improve child and youth mental health through this initiative. Additionally, they will represent the voice of Caribbean youth at regional and international conferences; and mobilize other children and youth to prioritize mental health and wellness.

Talking about the requirement of the initiative, UNICEF stated in their update that they are looking for candidates who are currently living in one of the 17 Caribbean countries/territories listed on the application form; are 15-24 years old; have a keen interest in child/youth empowerment and mental health advocacy; and, can commit 4-6 hours per month.

The benefits for enrollment include the following:

Certificates & training
Chance represent your nation and region
Chance to attend regional & international symposia
Opportunity to network & collaborate with fellow young advocates from the Caribbean
