The government of St Kitts and Nevis has recorded a significant success in the groundwater drilling project in Saddlers Community. The water services department has shared that they are seeing promising results from the site where the first well was drilled.
The officials have shared that the initial testing in the area has been completed and the results show a supply of 175 Gallons of water per minute. The authorities have shared that according to projections from experts, the well will be able to produce 300–350 gallons of water per minute.
The water services department has announced that the community will have access to half a million gallons of water every day. The department has shared that this will be made possible after a permanent pump has been installed.
The officials have shared that the drilling project is being done with an investment of EC$28 Million. The water services department is collaborating with the Trinidad and Tobago-based Water and Oil Well Services and technical specialists.
The initiative is part of the government’s mandate to provide 24 hour water services to the communities across St Kitts. The work on the saddler’s site started after extensive airborne surveying and hydrogeological assessments.
Notably, these assessments identified 17 potential sites for drilling of water wells across the island. The wider exploration efforts have also been focussed on areas that have historically witnessed low or intermittent supply of water.
The officials have shared that the work on the well is nearly complete. The well has been drilled at approximately 640 feet. The officers encountered the water table at roughly 500 feet.
The Project Manager for the well drilling, Joshua Ross has confirmed that the Saddlers well is highly promising. He highlighted that the projected output, which is close to 300–350 gallons per minute, is an exceptional volume of water from a single source.
The department has shared that after the work on the well is finished, it will improve water supply to saddlers and surrounding areas. The areas which will benefit from the completion of the water well include Harris’ Village, Lavington and Belle Vue.
