The Water Services Department in St Kitts has announced that drilling of a new well has started in Saddlers Community. Officially, the work started at the site on Friday, January 30 and highlights the commitment of the department to improving water security in the country.

The officials have shared that the Water Services Department is dedicated to improving water service reliability in the whole island. The work has been ongoing in various parts of the island to take water security to the next level.

The announcement regarding the drilling of a new well in the Saddlers Community was made by the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis during his recent appearance at the Freedom FM. The water services department  has shared that they have been actively working in spaces across the federation to improve water security.

The officials of the water services department have shared that they will be commissioning the Basseterre Desalination Plant. The facility, as per officials and crew, will deliver 2 million gallons of water per day to Basseterre and its surrounding areas.

Even before the desalination plant has been formally commissioned, the WSD has shared that the residents in the nearby communities have access to continuous supply of water. This has also led to the end of the nightly interruptions in water supply which the department had introduced as a method of conservation.

The water supply has been restored to satisfactory levels in communities like Cayon and the Canada communities. The officials have shared that this has been made possible through a combination of utilizing underground water sources and desalination plant to deliver water to these communities.

The department has also been working diligently to make sure that the other communities also have access to water services. The department has been focussing on rural areas to maximize water supply in the region. The authorities have since shared that members of the department have consulted with geologist Dr. Roland Hoag of Bear Rock Consulting Inc. His  aerial surveys identified 17 potential sites for new wells.

Saddlers is the first of these sites where the drilling work has also started.
