The Embassy of Taiwan on St Kitts and Nevis recently took to their social media account to applaud and congratulate the Ministry of Health in the Nevis Island Assembly. The Ministry of Health in Nevis for the recent rebranding of the “Behavioural Health and Wellness Centre.” This initiative is a part of the NIA’s drive to spread awareness about the mental health.
The Republic of China (Taiwan) is a constant partner of St Kitts and Nevis in the various departments of development in the country. The Embassy of Taiwan St Kitts and Nevis took to their social media to share a detailed update on the development of the rebranding initiative of the Behavioural Health and Wellness Centre in Nevis.
Taiwanese neuroscientist Dr Yuh-Tarng Chen has worked with the team there since October 2023. She also took up the initiative to give a visualised presentation last week on his study of mental issues in Nevis based on the epidemiological data over the past decade, which he also helped digitalise.
As per the update shared by the Taiwan embassy in St kitts and Nevis, The 3 most prevalent mental disorders were found out to be addictive disorders, schizophrenia and depression. According to the medical experts, Despite substance abuse being identified as an important factor, we must not overlook the wide array of other risk factors behind the development of mental illness.
The other factors include genetic predisposition, environmental factors, traumatic experiences, chronic stress, etc. Many of these are often shaped by the societal context, and to properly addressing them requires a helpful and supportive environment above all. The #eradication of #stigma will be a critical first step.
In line with this, The premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley has taken the initiative to talk about mental health and educate the members of the society on the importance of caring for the same. In line with this, he stated that as individuals are all prone to mental health episodes. Let us all be more aware of the importance of mental health, and be more supportive for persons undergoing difficulty with it
