Ahead of the General Elections, the People’s Labour Party (PLP) candidates reminded the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis of the commitments that the political party had made to them in the people’s manifesto.
The nominated candidates of PLP had signed contracts with the people of their respective constituencies, making a variety of promises that the party plans to fulfill in lieu of the support of the citizens in the general elections scheduled for the end of the week, Friday, August 5, 2022.
These promises, termed by the PLP as “contracts”, were signed by all the nominated candidates for the political party and the pictures of the same were shared by the official Facebook page of the Political Party with the caption: “Our candidates are serious about doing the part to grow the economy which will help create more jobs and opportunities, provide more protection for you and help to secure your future”
PLP Nominated Candidate from Constituency 1, Jacqueline Bryan promised to:
- work on bringing a new food market with proper facilities
- Finding access to start-up loans for new businesses.
- Advice up-and-coming business people on how to write a business plan.
PLP candidate from Constituency 2, candidate Nubin Greaux promised to ensure that local engineers, contractors and heavy vehicle operators are completely involved in critical projects.
He added that as an engineering contractor, he knew and understood the challenges the engineers have to face and promised to work to ensure their proper participation in projects.
From constituency 3, PLP candidate Akilah Byron-Nisbett pledged:
- To transform her office into a community hub for training and classes.
- To expand the local agricultural sector, develop the hydroponics industry and build a facility for fishers in palmetto point.
She added that she would continue to work with Buckley’s Uprising Committee to see the proper memorialization of Buckley’s uprising and the beautification of the area.
The PLP candidate from Constituency 4, Kendale Liburd, made a promise to work on the growth of the economy:
- With a centre for craft and tourism businesses in Wingfield heights.
- With tools and funding for the farmers across the constituency.
He further promised to deliver a fuel facility for fisher folks using old road fisheries and at least 100 new homes.
Stachio Williams, PLP candidate from Constituency 5 promised to work on growing the economy by giving the entrepreneurs a strong voice with a business association and supporting businesses to grow with mentoring and access to finance.
The PLP candidate from Constituency 6, Marc Williams, promised:
- A new commercial space in saddlers for businesses to start up.
- A bus terminal in the north of the island to help people get to work
- New fisheries facilities in Dieppe Bay.
Andrew Tablo Bass PLP candidate of Constituency 8 promised to:
- Construct a shopping mall in St Peters
- Bring back land to use in keys
- Building a business strip in Conaree
- Attracting more tourists in Cayon and supporting local businesses.
