In collaboration with key regional institutions, development partners, and Member States, the CARICOM Secretariat celebrates CARICOM Energy Month (CEM) 2023 throughout November. As a part of the annual CARICOM Energy Month celebrations in St Kitts and Nevis, we aim to harness the best of the Federation’s creative talents as we pursue increased public awareness on matters concerning energy. 

The CARICOM stated that they are looking forward to catchy, high-energy jingles that will stand the test of time- and will not be subject to trend or fad. The Residents of St Kitts and Nevis are encouraged to participate in the Jingle Competition for the 2023 edition of the CARICOM Energy Month. The organizers have shared that the winner will get an amount of $700 as cash prize. Contest Period: October 31 to November 21

The CARICOM has also laid out some Guidelines for the contest, which are as follows:

1. General

  • This competition is open to all citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis of all ages. 1.2. The “Energy” Jingle must incorporate lyrics referencing energy in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
  • The Jingle must be appropriate and should resonate with the Energy Unit’s audience(s), incorporating relevant elements – such as lyrics, melody, and rhythm – with which the target audiences (i.e., stakeholders including consumers, utility providers, academia, businesses etc.,) can identify.
  • The Jingle can be in Standard English, dialect and a blend of both as long as the message is clear and can cross all demographics.
  • The Jingle should be versatile so a shortened version could be used across various media platforms such as Radio, Facebook, etc.
  • The winner will receive a $700.00 cash prize.

2. The Entry Guidelines for the CARICOM Energy Month Jingle Contest are as follows:

  • There is no fee to enter the competition.
  • Only one (1) entry is permitted per participant. 2.3. Each entry must contain one (1) jingle of no more than one (1) minute length.
  • Members of staff of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure & Utilities, Transport, ICT, and Posts, SKELEC, NEVLEC, or their close relatives are prohibited from entering. 
  • Each entry should have original lyrics, melody, and rhythm. This means the access must be:
    • The artist’s original work must not include, be based on, or derived from any pre-existing or third-party music, lyrics, or melody.
    • Free of any copyright or intellectual property claims or infringements.
  • Lyrics must be heard above the music bed. 2.7. Entries MUST be submitted in audio MP3 format ONLY.
  • Jingles MUST be at most 20 MB in size.
  • A copy of the written lyrics MUST be submitted with each entry.
  • Entries must be reproducible in long and short versions. 
  • An Entry Form must accompany each entry. Entries submitted with the
  • requisite entry form WILL be accepted. 
  • The entry form will be made available on the Ministry’s Facebook Page.

3. Submission Guidelines for the CARICOM Energy Month Jingle Contest are as follows

  • Submissions will only be accepted electronically. Hard copies WILL NOT be obtained. 
  • Entries must be sent by October 28, 2023, at 11:59 PM. Entrants can use file-sharing apps to send submissions to the email address provided for the purpose
  • Entries must not be password protected. Password-protected entries will not be accepted.
  • Late entry will only be accepted on time.
  • Neither the Energy Unit nor the Ministry of Public Infrastructure & Utilities, Transport, ICT, and Posts, is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, or otherwise unusable entries, including entries that are lost or unusable due to computer, internet, or electronic issues on the part of the entrant.

4. Execution Guidelines for the CARICOM Energy Month Jingle Contest are as follows

The competition will be executed in two (2) phases.

  • Phase 1
    • The competition will be open to all citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis who meet the qualifications outlined in the competition guidelines (General Guidelines 1.1).
    • Participants must submit a jingle that is no longer than one (1) minute in length as outlined in the Entry and Submissions Guidelines. 
    • An expert panel of judges will select the top four (4) entries. The four “finalists.” will compete in an online/social media competition (Phase 2).
  • Phase 2
      • This round will include online voting.
      • The top four (4) entries or “finalists” will be uploaded on the social media platforms of the Energy Unit, SKELEC, NEVLEC and associated ministries.
      • An online and mass media campaign will encourage persons to vote for their top pick using an established portal which the CEM 202 Planning Committee will monitor. 
      • Online votes will constitute 25% of the total points, with an expert judging panel contributing 75%.
      • In the event of a tie, a “tie-breaker” judge will be assigned to conduct a “blind vote’.
      • The judges’ decisions are final.
  • When the winning jingle is decided, the winner must be available to professionally record the song and participate in interviews and prize-giving ceremonies, where necessary.
  • The virtual competition (Phase 2) opens on November 11, 2023, at noon Atlantic Standard Time (AST).
  • The virtual competition (Phase 2) closes on November 21, 2023, at 11:59 AM. Atlantic Standard Time (AST).
  • The winning entry will be announced over social media on Monday, November 21, 2023, at 3:00 PM.
