Secretary General of the CARICOM, Dr Carla Barnett, is on a multi-day visit to St Kitts and Nevis. She hosted interactions with the various departments of the government of the federation.
The official sources of the government and secretary-general Dr Barnett shared glimpses of these updates.
The secretary general of CARICOM met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education in the government of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Geoffery Hanley and Junior Minister Isalean Phillip.
Dr Carla Barnett interacted with the ministers on topics related to human resource development. The discussion predominantly focussed on the effects following the Covid-19, Pandemic Era.
Following this, The Secretary-General also interacted with the members of SKNYPA (St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association). Dr Carla Barnett interacted with the SKNYPA on topics related to these individuals’ roles as today’s leaders.
Further, she spent time with the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College students in Basseterre. During the interaction, she answered several (students’) questions on developments in our Caribbean Community and the opportunities for our young people.
She also interacted with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas. They held interactions on developments impacting our community and international relations, including concerns for our Member State, Haiti.
Starting on Monday, October 31, Secretary General Dr Carla Barnett held her first interaction with the Cabinet of Ministers of the newly elected government of St Kitts and Nevis.
During the meeting, The secretary-general interacted with the cabinet regarding various issues of importance in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). She also briefed Dr Terrance Drew about his responsibilities in the CARICOM quasi-cabinet.
His responsibilities in the quasi-cabinet include Human Resources Development, Health and HIV/AIDS.
Dr Terrance Drew and Secretary General Barnett took to their social media accounts to share the meeting update. The two leaders have been engaging in the discussions.
