The Prime Minister and Minister of National Security and Social Security in the government, Dr Terrance Drew has been committed to dealing with Violence and crime in the country in the best possible way in such a way that the people of the country remain safe. The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis recently shared a message on his social media.
He wrote The lives of our boys and men are also very important. Accordingly, He urged the people of St Kitts and Nevis to end crime and Violence and Increase love. Further, he also shared that the government is working to deal with Violence with sustainable methods. During a recent interview, “The Roundtable“, he touched on dealing with Violence and crime.
According to Dr Terrance Drew, the government is working towards taking a multipronged approach to address the issues of crime and Violence in St Kitts and Nevis. The Prime Minister added that they believe a programme which offers skills training, employment opportunities, and sustainable initiatives that yield benefits for both our young people and society is necessary to bring about positive change.
Talking about the same Prime Minster asserted that they are looking into making interventions to prevent Violence and crimes in the country. At the same time, he dismissed the PEACE programme, as he believed that the programme was not sustainable for the government in the long run.
Dr Terrance Drew asserted that paying someone a sum of money not to commit the crime is not the right way to address the issues of crime. “it does not serve the person and it does not serve the state” He said. He informed the media interviewers that he looked into the programme and realized that the government was incurring a cost of $50 Million to sustain the PEACE programme.
He believes that this way, the criminals can keep the government hostage, which means that the government will be vulnerable. Contrarily, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew asserted that the government is looking for better more scientific ways to address the issue of violence.
