The government of St Kitts and Nevis, headed by PM Dr Terrance Drew, has given a green signal to the complete activation of the cannabis Act of St Kitts and Nevis. The government of St Kitts and Nevis has made it clear since the start of the administration that they want to establish a fully functioning cannabis industry for the country. The government has planned to create a highly regulated and responsible use of cannabis.

The government passed the cannabis act in the year 2020. Under this, the authorities wanted to establish a Medicinal Cannabis Authority. Through this, they aim to legally provide access to cannabis as an alternative medical treatment for people suffering from a qualifying medical condition.

The Medicinal Cannabis Authority will further provide for a comprehensive licensing scheme which will help regulate the cultivation, supply, possession, production, and use of medicinal cannabis. However, even though the act was passed almost three years ago, only Parts I and II of the Act were activated. The Cannabis Act set out preliminary matters related to establishing the Medical Cannabis Authority.

The Minister of Agriculture in the government of St Kitts and Nevis, Samal Duggins, announced the complete activation of the cannabis industry during a St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party event to commemorate the celebration of Labour Day. Here, the Minister of Agriculture asserted that with the announcement, they aim to ensure that the people can understand the laws about the use of Medicinal Cannabis.

Minister Duggins asserted that the complete activation of the cannabis Act is a significant step for the government led by Dr Terrance Drew. The government intends to help the buding entrepreneurs find their way in the newly activated industry.

With the new development in the Medical Cannabis Authority will have the legal authority to implement responsible regulation policies to kickstart the medical cannabis industry in St Kitts and Nevis. With the new legislation, The Minister responsible for the Medical Cannabis Authority, Samal Duggins, can issue Regulations to guide the industry.
