PM Terrance Drew congratulates Mauriel Knight on appointment as Deputy Clerk of National Assembly

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, hailed the newly appointed Deputy Clerk of the national assembly, Mauriel Knight, following his appointment in his new position. Dr Drew has taken to his social media account to extend his congratulations to the youth of St Kitts and Nevis. The new deputy clerk of the national assembly featured in the proceedings of the National Assembly for the first time during the February 8, 2023 session.

Dr Drew shared an image on his social media account where Knight was seen sitting alongside the speaker of the National Assembly, Lanien Blanchette and the Deputy Speaker, Latoya Biyanca Jones. Talking further about the young man, who now forms an integral part of the national assembly constitution, Dr Terrance Drew noted that Mauriel Knight is a nineteen-year-old youth with significant experience in the parliament.

According to Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, he gained a greater appreciation for the parliament and parliamentary procedures when Mauriel joined the St Kitts National Youth Parliament Association (SKNYPA) in 2019. The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis also noted in his social media account that Knight held several posts in the organization. These include the positions of Vice President in 2019 and Chair of several committees.

In 2021, he was elected President of the St Kitts National Youth Parliament Association. He retained his position in the 2022 elections as well. Accordingly, he was the youngest person to hold the said position when he was first elected in 2021.

Dr Terrance Drew urged the people of St Kitts and Nevis to join him in extending sincere congratulations to Mauriel Knight. Here, PM Drew took the opportunity to address him as an astute and dedicated young man. He also expressed his confidence in Knight’s ability to do well in his new position. Dr Drew added that his appointment to the role is a testament to Knight’s passion and love for country. He has a bright future ahead.
