Minister of Energy and Utilities, Public Infrastructure, Post, Information, Communication and Technology, Konris Maynard, toured the facilities of The Cable St. Kitts Ltd on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. During the tour, Minister Maynard met and interacted with the management and staff and was informed about several ongoing projects.

First, The Minister of public utilities thanked the staff at the Cable for welcoming him. He shared his appreciation for the team for all the work that they have done. He said that he knew that sometimes the general public does not get to see the hard work that the team at Cable Ltd. put in, the extra hours they put in and the care you take in bringing service to us. He expressed his gratefulness.

Minister Maynard said, “Because a majority of Cable Ltd is owned by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, we (the government) also want to thank you for the projects that you are working on for the Government in order to ensure that we are well connected. We have our government-wide area network, G-One. That is going to be very important as we transform our Government and our country St Kitts and Nevis to an e-government and a digital economy.”

Minister Maynard further stated that it was extremely important for the physical and digital infrastructure be managed by one ministry and that he made that request. He stated that the digital infrastructure being rolled out will see fibre-optic internet available island-wide very soon, which would help in improving the connectivity of the island and build-out of the digital economy.

During the tour, the Minister public infrastructure received various demonstrations of the work that the Cable does. This included a modern systems dashboard which highlights the status of every existing cable customer. The tour of the facilities began at the Cable’s LaGuerite technical site and concluded at the Cable’s main office on Cayon Street.
