After 13 years of exemplary service as St Kitts and Nevis’ only resident diplomat and Ambassador to the Republic of China on Taiwan, Jasmine Huggins has been terminated immediately by the newly elected PM Dr Terrance Drew-led SKNLP Administration in St.Kitts and Nevis.
Ambassador Huggins had been posted in Taiwan for 13 years. She was assigned the task of establishing the embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Taiwan in late 2007.
She began her diplomatic career in Taiwan as the charge d’affaires when the embassy was officially opened in January 2008.
In 2010, she was appointed the embassy’s ambassador, and now she concurrently serves as head of the diplomatic corps in Taiwan. Before posting in Taiwan, she had served ten years at the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Washington, DC.
Ambassador Huggins graduated from the Howard University School of Law, after which she began her diplomatic career at the foreign service of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Former Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris-led Opposition Peoples Labour Party has denounced the termination and labelled it a part of what they described as a clear policy of Political Victimization.
Former Prime Minister Harris condemned the termination of Ambassador Huggins and the victimization of other government officials, who were all unceremoniously forced to go on administrative leave without warning or reason.
Before the posting in Taiwan, Ambassador Jasmine Huggins served in the Embassy of St Kitts and Nevis. She was also a part of the Permanent Mission of St Kitts and Nevis in Washington, D.C. She served as the Alternate Representative for the country at the OAS and was part of the CARICOM Alternates group.
Ambassador Huggins also facilitated technical cooperation and resource flow from the OAS to projects in St Kitts and Nevis.
Ambassador Jasmine Huggins has professional experience and affiliation with the associations of The United Methodist Lawyers Guild and Maryland State Bar Association. She has been a Judge of the American University International Law Human Rights Moot Court Competition. H.E.
