The Dominica Labour Party, which has been at the top of the executive side in the Commonwealth of Dominica for the last five tenures, secured a resounding victory in the sixth consecutive polls, winning 19 out of the total 21 seats in the snap general elections held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
The Dominica Labour Party has an unbroken streak of victories for six consecutive tenures, with their unchallenged victory in the snap general elections in 2022.
Following the elections, the Dominica Labour Party leader, Roosevelt Skerrit, has expressed his gratitude to the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica for going out in large numbers to their respective polling stations, voting for his political party, and conveying them back to the office.
Before the general snap elections, the following constituencies from the Commonwealth of Dominica had already been declared, as only a single candidate from DLP candidate got themselves nominated from these areas.
The six constituencies’ results were declared as follows:
- Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit remains the Parliamentary Representative of the Vielle Case Constituency.
- Dr Irving Francis McIntyre will serve as the Parliamentary Representative of Roseau Valley for the subsequent tenure.
- Darren Pinard will serve as the representative of the Colihaut constituency for the ensuing term of the government.
- Roland Royer will represent the Cottage constituency in the general assembly for the following time.
- Lakeyia Lennicia Jamelle Joseph will represent Paix Bouche in the General Assembly of Dominica
- Jullan B.G Defoe will remain the Parliamentary Representative of Petite Savanne Constituencies, respectively.
The observer team of 16 experts from the Organization of American States (OAS) was deployed in the Commonwealth of Dominica before the snap general elections.
The sixteen experts, headed by former Prime Minister of Bahamas, Perry Christie, observed the General Elections in the commonwealth of Dominica.
The results of the remaining 15 constituencies were also declared shortly after the polling concluded in the nation.
The results were as follows:
- Portsmouth constituency – DLP candidate, Fenella Wenham, achieved victory with 916 votes. Meanwhile, independent candidate Magdalene H. Vidal accumulated 114 votes.
- Wesley constituency – DLP’s Fidel N. Grant ensured 717 votes and gained a victory against an independent candidate Clint Rolle who got 293 votes.
- Roseau Central constituency – Melissa Poponne Skerrit secured 1023 votes and confirmed her victory from the constituency. Meanwhile, two other candidates were also contesting from Roseau Central, independent candidate Karshma Richards received 48 votes, and Jason Jno Baptiste, a candidate of TUD, got 41 votes.
- St. Joseph constituency – The DLP candidate Darron T. Llyod contested against three other candidates. Lloyd secured his victory from St Joseph with a vote percentage of 1014 votes (90.13%), while Tiyani I. Behanzin, an independent candidate, got 28 votes, and Independent Candidate Ferdinand M. Germain received 33 votes. Clivian I. Rolle, a Team Unity Dominica candidate, got 50 votes.
- Salybia constituency – Dominica Labour Party candidate Cozier P. Federick acquired a massive 1003 votes and defeated an independent candidate Muta J. Laville-Matthew, who managed to secure 394 votes.
- Morne Jaune constituency – Gretta B. Roberts, a candidate of DLP, secured victory with 571 votes, while the independent candidate Kertney Matthew got 174 votes.
- Roseau North constituency – DLP candidate Miriam A. Blanchard acquired victory with 1476 votes. Meanwhile, Sherman H. Boston, an independent candidate and Tyrone F. Nicholas stood at 115 and 92 votes.
- Castle Bruce constituency – Octavia Alfred, DLP Candidate, won with 782 votes, while the independent candidate Kelvin Cadette got 137 votes.
- Mahaut constituency – Cassanni Laville of the Dominica Labour Party received a total of 2016 votes from the constituency, while his competitor Dunstan Petes, an independent candidate, secured just 80 votes.
- Roseau South constituency – DLP politician Chekirah N. Lockhart emerged as the victor with 1739 votes, while her competitors, both independent candidates, Davidson K. Julien, and Wayne Norde got, got 87 votes and 312 votes, respectively.
- La Plaine constituency – Dominica Labour Party candidate Cassandra Williams achieved victory from La Plaine with 690 votes, while TUD candidate Jason Fontaine managed to get only 39 votes.
- Soufriere constituency – DLP’s Denise Charles got 1236 votes and became a parliamentary representative from Soufriere. On the other hand, Tahira Blanchard, an independent candidate, earned 77 votes.
- Grand Bay constituency – Vince Henderson confirmed his victory with 1139 votes. Meanwhile, independent candidate Henry M. Shillingford got 11, and Team Unity D candidate Lyndon Peters got 17.
Two independent candidates have also made their way towards the general assembly, having emerged victorious from Salisbury and Marigot constituencies.
- Salisbury constituency – Independent candidate Jesma Paul confirmed their victory with 617 votes against DLP candidate Lynsia Frank who got 463 votes.
- Marigot constituency – Independent candidate Anthony S. Charles dethroned Gregory Riviere (329 votes) of DLP and Carlos K. Charles (6 votes) of TUD after securing 491 votes.
