The federal government of St Kitts and Nevis has given out an official statement regarding the progress on the proposed Destiny Project in Nevis. The Federal Government and the Nevis Island Administration came together to discuss four major issues arising from the to establish the proposed Destiny project in Nevis on July 23.
The issues were recognised by the Special Sustainability Zones Ad Hoc Committee which is reviewing the application. The application was also reviewed by the Independent Oversight Committee.
The authorities have shared that after the committees shared the details of the issues, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Terrance Drew reached out to Premier Mark Brantley to organise a meeting to discuss the four issues that they have identified. The Prime Minister’s communication was recorded on July 1, 2026.
The Premier responded to the correspondence within the week on July 6, 2026. The July 23 meeting, according to the authorities, is the latest step in the review process for the SSZ project.
The authorities have further shared that during the meeting a series of discussions took place during this meeting. The meeting also concluded with a series of fundamental project changes being proposed.
These changes are to be presented to the federal government who would in turn take the matter to the Independent Oversight Committee and their input would be sought on the recommendations. After this the application will be returned to the Federal Cabinet for consideration.
The project has been under the review of the federal government since Cabinet Secretary of the Nevis Island Administration formally transmitted the application to the Federal Government on January 29, 2026.
The Federal government, led by Dr Terrance Drew has been reviewing the application assisted by a group of experts. They confirmed that no final decisions have been made on this matter.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has shared that “There will be no compromise as far as any of our laws or our Constitution is concerned, with any project in St. Kitts or in Nevis,”
“The Constitution is supreme. No agreement, and no development, will be permitted to displace the Constitution.” reaffirmed the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis.
