Jeffrey Hazel, Director of the St. Kitts Department of Sport recently announced that the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium is available for the athlete training and hosting of track and field events. He requested the sporting clubs, organisations and schools to apply for access to the Stadium through official channels.
He further explained the process of registration and shared that the process is just like the other applications used for the other facilities within the sport department. He denotes the process as “quite simple” and said that the interested organization can send the formal written letter or email to sknsports@gov.kn .
In the application the organisation has to mention what facility they want and provide event or activity information with dates and time period. Additionally, according to the event or activity nature fees will be charged and if the organisation wants to play loud music at the stadium they will have to send a permission application to the Commissioner of the Police.
The announcement regarding the availability of the Stadium for the athlete training and hosting of the events was made in the quarterly press conference led by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources, Creative Economy et al, Samal Duggins. The press conference was held July 15, 2026 at the NEMA conference room.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Valencia Syder shared that the application process was introduced to avoid misuse of the Stadium observed previously, where people copied stadium keys and improperly used the facility. Syder stated that the step taken by the department is not a restriction, it is a measure to secure the stadium from inappropriate damage.
She further shared after the previous misuse of the stadium led to renovating the stadium from the public funds. She said, “We have to be accountable to the people, for the people’s money that was used to renovate the stadium”.
Notably, the Permanent Secretary mentioned that the Ministry of Sports and the Department of Sports are continuously working on adapting the sustainable management structure to safeguard the stadium facility.
