The Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins has urged the people of the island nation to take responsibility for the sports infrastructure situated in the various communities across the island. The Minister made this call while sharing the updates on the renovated and rehabilitated facilities that the Ministry of Sports has delivered to the various communities across the island.
The Minister shared that the care and maintenance of these facilities is the duty of the people of the island. He added that the community has the responsibility for protecting the million dollar investments of the country. These pieces of infrastructure, according to the Minister play a very important role in improving national love.
The Minister has shared that the infrastructure is not simply pieces of brick and mortar. The infrastructure serves as a foundation for the growth of the nation’s sorts tourism sector.
The construction of the sports infrastructure, playing fields and more serve as an opportunity for the youth of the nation to strive for their growth.
The Minister has shared that the protection and maintenance of the facilities across the island can be done with the collective efforts of the people of the island. As a ministry, they can only put rules and regulations to help manage the facilities.
It falls on the community to put these facilities, once presented to the people of the island,, to best use. The Minister has shared that the people are also responsible for reporting unauthorized behaviours to the authorities. He recalled a recent incident where people were jumping fences, which he found unacceptable.
The Minister has also stated that if people see other people doing unacceptable activities, people are expected to stop these activities and explain to the people committing the wrongdoing that they should abide by some rules.
Minister Samal Duggins said that whatever rules and restrictions exist in relation with these facilities are not intended to harm or gatekeep. They are intended to protect the investment of the administration.
He said that there are no malicious reasons for these rules to exist, but to protect the investment that has come from the money given to the nation by the people in the form of taxes.
