Minister of Public Utilities in the government of St Kitts and Nevis, Konris Maynard, joined the members of the Water Services Department on a serious trek up to the Green Hill Water intake on February 10. The expedition took Minister Maynard and the water department staff about 1700ft above sea level in the mountains above Cayon.

The journey was part of the Minister’s initiative to remain involved in the Ministry of Public Utilities proceedings. Accordingly, he took to his social media account to share glimpses of the trip he took up to Green Hill Water intake. According to the Minister of Public Utilities, the trip served as a good exercise for the team.

Minister Konris Maynard shared that he continues to join the hard-working staff of the Water Services Department to experience first-hand what they experience regularly. The trek aims to ensure that as the ministry of public utilities, and especially the water services department, build out our Water resiliency plan, Konris Maynard can fully appreciate the rigours and needs of the job.

During the trip, Minister Konris Maynard shared an important update. He shared an image on the post where the Minister is standing next to a very important sign (that read: PROPERTY OF THE ST KITTS WATER SERVICES DEPARTMENT NO UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY BEYOND THIS POINT TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED) Minister Konris Maynard urged the people of St Kitts and Nevisto NEVER proceed beyond these signs to these water intakes without authorization and supervision from the Water Services Department.

He asserted that the restriction is for the people’s safety and our water supply. He added that there are gates and fences which further restrict access, and I am appealing to all not to try to breach the gates and fences. He repeated that the department would be prosecuting trespassers! He further urged the people of St Kitts and Nevis to remember that Water is Life; Every Drop Counts, and all of us must play our part.

St Kitts and Nevis are going through a water crisis. Accordingly, as the Minister of Public Utilities, it falls under the jurisdiction of Minister Konris Maynard to collaborate with the water department to find a solution for the water supply issue. In line with this, he has taken several trips to inspect and regulate the water supply sources.
