Basseterre, St Kitts: The Government of St Kitts and Nevis through the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Constituency Empowerment has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Technische Universitat Hamburg (TUHH), the Hamburg University of Technology.
The MoU was signed by the Minister of Climate Action, et al., Dr Joyelle Clarke on behalf of St Kitts and Nevis on October 11, 2024, that aims towards the agenda of “Engineering to Face Climate Change.”
According to the reports, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew visited Germany back in 2020 where the discussions for fostering partnership and providing training opportunities for St Kitts and Nevis began.
Significantly, Minister Joyelle Clarke and her delegation continued those discussions and met with the TUHH’s President Professor Dr-Ing Andreas Timm-Giel and Professor Dr H. Cornelius Herstatt, Head of the Institute of Technology and Innovation Management at the university.
Minister Clarke exchanged dialogues about creating new possibilities in the field of education and training around engineering for climate change, circular economy, and for certain areas of future.
This initiative will ensure that the students with potential will have the opportunity to share and learn on innovative spaces through this technical partnership.
The Minister of Sustainable Development also took her Facebook to share glimpses from the signing ceremony and noted that this MoU is dedicated towards advancing citizens of St Kitts and Nevis through higher education programmes with the primary aim of advancing the Sustainable Island State Agenda.
Notably, the MoU was facilitated through the ongoing diplomatic support of Special Envoy for St Kitts and Nevis to Germany, Ama Martin and Professor Dr Cornelius Herstatt.
Minister Dr Joyelle Clarke also extended special thanks to PM Dr Terrance Drew for trusting the Ministry to complete this endeavour and also thanked Special Envoy Ama Martin for working on behalf of the people of St Kitts and Nevis.
