St Kitts and Nevis: Jahzara Claxton (Women’s Academy) and Carlon Bowen-Tuckett (Men’s Academy) of St Kitts and Nevis have been awarded with full-time, one-year academy contracts by Cricket West Indies, which had been effective from October 1st, 2024.
Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins took his Facebook and extended heartiest congratulations to the two athletes for their incredible milestone. He noted that their hard work, dedication, and passion have led them to this well-deserved recognition.
Jahzara Claxton and Bowen Tuckett’s achievement is a major boost for the future of West Indies Cricket as these two talented individuals are the federation’s rising stars and both athletes are now all set to receive world-class training and development over the next year.
Significantly, the Cricket West Indies announced the awarding of the full-time contracts to 30 young cricketers, emphasising on its commitment to nurture and encourage new and rising talents across the Caribbean.
Reportedly, for the first time ever, the Men’s Academy group, including Carlon Bowen-Tuckett, will be based full-time at the CWI-owned Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) in Antigua, where they will undergo year-long, intensive training.
Whereas, the Women’s Academy, including Jahzara Claxton, will continue to learn and grow through training camps, high-performance programs, and international tours, advancing women’s cricket in the region.
The Cricket West Indies Direction, Miles Bascombe, underlined the vitality of this initiative and said that the CWI Academies are instrumental in bridging the gap between junior and senior levels making sure that they receive the support they need to be successful.
Additionally, Minister Samal Duggins also extended gratitude to Cricket West Indies (CWI) for their continued commitment to developing young talent in the region. The support has been crucial in providing the athletes with the opportunity to excel on the international stage.
On the behalf of Ministry of Sports, Minister Duggins wished both the nation’s athletes continued success as they embark on this exciting journey. “Your accomplishments serve as an inspiration to all young athletes in St Kitts and Nevis.”
