The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Terrance Drew met with the The High Commissioner of Canada to Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia & St Vincent & the Grenadines and the OECS Commission, Lilian Chatterjee during his visit to Canada the previous week ahead of the 40th anniversary celebration of the independence day of St Kitts and Nevis.
The event served as an opportunity for the prime minister to interact with the high commissioner on issues of international cooperation. The High Commissioner is among the most active allies of the federation who takes every opportunity to expand the scope of cooperation between St Kitts and Nevis and Canada.
Dr Terrance Drew traveled to Canada during the previous week to attend the St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Toronto’s (SKNAT) Pre-independence Celebration cultural Extravaganza. The event was held on September 10, 2023. After the event, the high commissioner of Canada, Lilian Chatterjee and her team hosted a reception in order to celebrate the St Kitts and Nevis independence day.
High Commissioner Chatterjee shared some glimpses of the event on her social media account. The prime minster Dr Terrance Drew was accompanied by a delegation of the ministers and high level government officials who were also present at independence 40 reception. The High Commissioner shared that Canada hosted the event in honor of the celebration of the independence day of the country.
Before meeting the High Commissioner of Canada, the prime minister Dr Terrance Drew spent a day with the members of the diaspora of St Kitts and Nevis, and had the chance to meet, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, the 29th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. During the reception, the high commission extended their best wishes to the government and people of St Kitts and Nevis
The celebration of the country’s independence day was marked with a number of events, including the Prime Minister’s Lecture series (September 12), the Freedom Concert and the National Heroes Day, (September 16), Gospel Concert (September 17)
