The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas, has taken to his social media account to express his condolences on the death of international icon Randall Robinson. The Minister of foreign affairs in the government of St Kitts and Nevis shared a brief account of the departed icon’s life on his social media and paid his most heartfelt tribute.
He was the founder of the Trans Africa Group who spent the final part of his years and lives with his family, his beloved wife, Hazel and daughter Khalia, in his adopted home, on the island of St Kitts.
Dr Denzil Douglas asserted that Randall Robinson worked as a Human Rights activist, lawyer and former President of the civil rights movement. His stellar contribution to human rights advocacy in the United States of America resulted in the release of the world-renowned political figure, the late President Nelson Mandela. His work led to the ultimate dismantling of the South African Apartheid system and the restoration to power of former Haitian President Jean Bertrand Aristide.
Dr Denzil Douglas shared that We cannot eulogize this late son of humanity without highlighting his tenacity and commitment to eradicating the inherent injustices and unfairness in political and social systems. His works in the life epitomize Burn’s conceptualization of ‘Man’s Inhumanity to Man…”, His selfless deprivation, frequent incarcerations, hunger strikes and physical protests were all demonstrative of his struggle against the numerous inequalities that render life intolerable for the black man.
Additionally, Dr Denzil Douglas stated that As modern-day philanthropists join in the refrain, Randall was futuristic in his advocacy for reparations for the perils of slavery. Talking about his own experiences, the Minister of foreign affairs shared on his social media account that he had the opportunity to converse with him on many occasions and always marvelled at his intellect, humility and the genuineness of the Brother who fought for the rights of a people of Afro American and Caribbean descent.
Today, Dr Denzil Douglas asserted that though his physical frame lies still, Randall’s voice echoes loudly from the pages of the books he has authored in defence of the voiceless and oppressed. Randall, your selflessness will live on in our hearts as the struggles gain momentum by the many who have picked up the cry for fairness, justice, true democracy and the call against Man’s inhumanity to man.”
He hoped that Randall’s wife, Hazel and daughter Khalia, find strength and solace in the accomplishments that emerged from his struggles and sacrifices, advocating for his fellow men, especially people of colour. He concluded his tribute with the words, Rest well, Randall, as angels bear you to your eternal home
