St Kitts and Nevis are celebrating World Consumer Rights Day. The Minister of International Trade, Commerce and Industry, Dr Denzil Douglas, has shared the event schedule on his social media account. The Consumer Affairs Department has scheduled a Week of Activities centred around this year’s theme, “Empowering Consumers Through Clean Energy Transitions”.
In recognition of the occasion, which is annually celebrated on March 15, the week of events will start on March 12 with a Praise and Worship Session at the
Roman Catholic Church at 8:30 AM
The event will be followed by the Minister’s Speech, delivered by Dr Denzil Douglas.
On March 13,
The department has scheduled the day for Radio Programs

On March 14
Launch of “Consumer Education for Kids” Program for the students of St. Pauls Primary School, Saddlers Primary School, Dr William Connor Primary School

Under Dr Denzil Douglas, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs will observe Charleton Edwards Memorial CAD Primary School Quiz FINALS.
The contest will be hosted at the CUNA Caribbean Conference Center at 5:00 PM.
On March 16
The department will observe the Business Appreciation Pop-up
Distribution of Certificates of Appreciation
On March 17
The department will host the Team Building Event
at the Caribelle Batik.
As per the update shared by the Minister of International Trade, Commerce and Investment, Dr Denzil Douglas the Consumer Affairs Department was established to inform, educate, and empower all consumers, sellers, and suppliers of goods.
Social media users also commended the initiative by the department of Consumer Affairs. One social media user wrote: There needs to be a plan of action enforcement by consumer affairs to tackle the alarming cost of living in the shops. If they need legislative support, the parliamentarians, including the government, must give them the required legislative support to tackle this issue.
At the very least, he said, fruits and vegetables and other Healthier goods are supposed to be cheap. We cannot be promoting Health is the Wealth of the Nation. Yet, the ordinary man is paying crazy high prices for Healthier items if nothing can be done wholistically yet at least address the price of healthier foods like fruits, vegetables, fish etc. Easier accessibility of healthier foods will improve the nation’s overall Health.
