St Kitts and Nevis: The government of St Kitts and Nevis has passed the agreement for the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) ensuring the environment sustainability of the community.
The announcement for the same was made public on August 2, 2024 by the Federal Parliament of the nation.
The Senator and the Minister of Climate Action, Sustainable Development, et al., Joyelle Clarke led the meeting stating the critical role of legislation in underscoring the nation’s commitment to sustainable development.
This partnership with CCCC aims to address the continuous challenges faced by the issues of climate change. During her address to the parliament, Minister Joyelle Clarke outlined the importance of the Bill.
Presenting the address, she mentioned how the passage of the Bill marks a pivotal moment in the nation’s environmental policy. She stated how the Bill signifies the dedication to working alongside the Caribbean neighbours in reducing the impacts of the climate change and advancing sustainable development goals.
Established by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the CCCCC, plays an important role addressing the climate change in the country. This significant agreement will help to improve technical expertise, financial resources, and strategic initiatives made to build climate resilience.
The successful passing of the Bill showcases the collaborative spirit of the Federal Parliament and a commitment towards achieving a sustainable future.
Dr Joyelle Clarke also extended thanks to her parliamentary colleagues for their support and highlighted the need of the collaborative effort in combating climate change.
“We are at a critical juncture where immediate and decisive action is required. Through this agreement, we are reinforcing our commitment to protect the environment, safeguard our communities, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come,” Minister Clarke said.
