To enhance the cooperation in sports matters the island of St. Kitts and Nevis has signed an MoU with India on Monday. This significant initiative was taken during the historical visit of Dr. Denzil Douglas to India, which marked as the first ever foreign ministerial visit from St. Kitts and Nevis.
On his six-day diplomatic visit to India, Dr. Douglas have come with sheer optimism to enhance the bilateral ties between both the countries.
This MoU was signed between Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of the Republic of India and Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, St. Kitts and Nevis.
This decision was finalised after discussing the various areas of cooperation in sports sector. The key areas of cooperation outlined in this MoU include Athlete and Team Training, Coach Training and exchange programmes.
Areas of collaboration
Athlete and Team Training: Under the MoU both the countries have assured to provide training and competition of athletes and athletic teams.
Coach Training: Training and technical assistance for coaches will be enhanced.
Exchange Programs: Exchange programmes and visits of sports leaders, officials, sports administrators, professionals, technicians and sports support personnel will benefit both the countries make their mark in sports sector.
Youth Exchange: Exchange of youth/junior in various disciplines including badminton, Shooting, Wrestling, Kabaddi and Athletics. This will significantly promote youth to participate in sports.
Sports Science Training: Under the agreement training, exchange and attachment programmes for sports sciences personnel and other development assistance in sports sciences.
Coach and Sports Education: Training, exchange and attachment programmes in the areas of coach education, curriculum development, sports education, sports management and sports infrastructure development and management.
Technology Exchange: Training, exchange of technology for infrastructure and programmes in the development of information and research in the field of sports.
Sports R&D: Several collaborations in the area of sports research & development in training.
Anti-Doping Collaboration: Collaboration in the areas of sports science, research & development and anti-doping programmes.
Physical Education Cooperation: Collaboration between universities or physical education institutes of both countries in physical education and fitness development programs.
Further, on the same day Dr. Douglas also had a meeting with Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry of India, Jitin Prasada. During this meeting several aspects which include trade and investment, tourism cooperation.
On Tuesday, Dr. Douglas will have meeting with Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, the federation is looking forward for the positive developments from this meeting. This visit is intended to enhance bilateral ties and begin new collaborations that would be beneficial for both nations in long-term.
Notably, Dr. Douglas landed in India on August 4, where he was warmly welcomed by the Indian Diplomats of Ministry of External Affairs.
Dr. Douglas on his visit has been savouring on Indian cuisine and is intrigued to know and witness the local culture and how sustainably the whole country is moving towards at a fast pace to become developed nations.
