New Delhi, India: During the six-day historic visit to India Dr. Denzil Douglas Foreign Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis had his first bilateral meeting with Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry of India, Jitin Prasada.
This visit is the first ever First-ever foreign ministerial visit from St. Kitts and Nevis and will open new chapters of cooperation and strengthening of bilateral ties.
Dr. Douglas landed in New Delhi on Sunday afternoon at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, where he was welcomed by G. V. Srinivas, Additional Secretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, Ministry of External Affairs of India, and Gurdip Dev Bath, Special Representative of St Kitts and Nevis to the UK High Commission.
Earlier this morning he was escorted by the convoy of Ministry of External Affairs to the location of the programme in New Delhi.
He along with his team had a fruitful meeting with Jitin Prasada, where they discussed about several challenges faced by the small island nations and also about the natural resourced the island of St. Kitts and Nevis has been blessed with.
Further discussion on enhancing the ties on the business front was looked into, several other topics of discussion were trade and investment, tourism cooperation that would benefit both the nations.
Dr. Douglas also expressed his gratitude, as India, under its ‘Vaccine Maitri Initiative’, the island nation was provided with jabs when the developed countries of the world had scarce resources.
After the formal discussion, the minister had High tea together, relishing the Indian Appetizers. Further, Dr. Douglas handed over the gifts he brought to the Indian Diplomats, which had the essence of the land of St. Kitts and showcased the local culture of the country.
Following this, Dr. Douglas is scheduled to meet with Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister, on Tuesday. This meeting is expected to bring out positive news for the island nation, which will provide long-term benefits to both the nations involved and especially Indian Diaspora living in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Dr. Douglas took to his Facebook page to share the information about his visit to India, he mentioned that during this visit he is looking forward to several important discussions that would benefit both the countries.
It is to be noted that St. Kitts and Nevis recently received a courtesy call from the High Commissioner of India, Dr. Amit Telang, which demonstrates their strong diplomatic ties.
Back in St. Kitts and Nevis, the Indian Diaspora is looking forward to some positive developments from this historic visit. They hope that strengthened ties between their home and residential country will lead to increased cooperation in various sectors.
