Dr Denzil Douglas, Foreign Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis is on his 6-day visit to India, where he landed on Sunday afternoon in New Delhi. This marks as the first-ever foreign ministerial visit from the island of St. Kitts and Nevis to India.
To discuss the bilateral relationship between both countries, Foreign Minister Denzil Douglas will meet Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister on Tuesday.
On the Sunday afternoon when the Foreign Minister Dr Denzil Douglas landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, he was warmly welcomed by G. V. Srinivas, Additional Secretary Latin America and Caribbean, Ministry of External Affairs of India, and Gurdip Dev Bath Special Representative of St Kitts and Nevis to the UK High Commission.
Afterwards he left in a convoy of the Ministry of External Affairs. The convoy had Indian and St Kitts and Nevis Flag on the sides.
Welcoming Dr Douglas to Indian land, Randhir Jaiswal-Official Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs, India stated that this first ever visit from Foreign Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis will unveil new beginnings of cooperation.
Randhir Jaiswal on X (previously Twitter) wrote, “A warm welcome to FM Denzil Douglas of St. Kitts and Nevis as he arrives in New Delhi on the first-ever foreign ministerial visit from St Kitts and Nevis to India. This visit will open new chapters of cooperation and further strengthen our bilateral ties.”
It is to be noted that St. Kitts and Nevis and India have strong bilateral ties, which were demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the vaccine doses were not easily available, India provided vaccines to St. Kitts and Nevis under its ‘Vaccine Maitri Initiative.’
The schedule shared by Ministry of External Affairs reveal that Dr. Douglas will be in Delhi from August 4 till August 9. During these six days he will be meeting several dignitaries, which will be strengthen the bilateral ties and open new avenues of growth in the island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Recently, High Commissioner of India, Dr. Amit Telang also had meeting with Dr. Denzil Douglas before his visit to India, during which they prepared for his high-level visit to India.
This historic visit will strengthen their diplomatic relationship and will open up new opportunities for working together, benefiting both the countries.
Additionally, the government also celebrates the Indian community living in St. Kitts and Nevis and who have been significantly contributing in the economy of the country.
This visit aims to foster further diplomatic engagement and explore new avenues for collaboration that would benefit both nations.
