St. Kitts and Nevis: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Denzil Douglas kicked off the 3rdday of the first ever Investment Gateway Summit with an illuminating session providing insights on ‘Sustainable Investment and the Pathway to Economic Development’.
The day, which is dedicated to ‘Sustainability’, will feature a number of sessions and panel discussions.
The historic summit which is underway in St. Kitts and Nevis’ St. Kitts Marriott Resort will run through July 14, 2024, and is said to be what is being anticipated as a highly successful event.
During his address, Douglas remarked, “We don’t sell passports, we invite you to invest, we invite international organizations to run due diligence and when all of that is done then we invite you to be citizens.”
He assured the attendees that St. Kitts and Nevis do not take their investments for granted, and the government can show what they have done through it.
He provided a comprehensive overview of the Federation’s economic development, offering valuable insights into the growth trajectory and future prospects.
The Minister noted that the Labour government established new avenues of economic activity and growth, while ensuring that there was zero social upheaval, zero political instability and zero domestic turmoil.
“In fact, it is because of those concerns that we created what has now become famous as the Sugar Industry Diversification Foundation,” he added.
While stressing on sustainability, he mentioned that it is the hard work of a phenomenal team of cabinets over the years and the public servants that enabled the administration to put in place the types of sustainable investments that would yield the types of economic development that the country really need.
He said that the country is very much serious in becoming the first sustainable island nation in the world and in that regard, the government is taking multiple steps which includes making significant investments in plans for major expansions in green energy.
“Transitioning to green energy is a key component of our sustainable investment strategy, and this is because we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint,” mentioned the Foreign Affairs Minister.
Dr. Douglas continued to say that the government is committee to decrease its dependance on fossil fuels and is committed to create a more resilient energy infrastructure for the citizens.
While talking about the significance of green energy investments he said that they are not only environmentally prudent but are economically beneficial as well as they create jobs, reduce the cost of production and stimulate growth in emerging sectors which is deemed to be critical in advancing the nation.
He expressed his pleasure in reporting that St. Kitts and Nevis is on the verge of bringing the dream of green energy into reality, showcasing the country’s dedication towards achieving this goal.
