The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, was recently featured in the July edition of the monthly interview. During the interview, he spoke of the various issues that the country has been facing. The prime minister and the minister of finance, health, national security and social security et al. He has been working diligently to find a solution for the water solution.
The prime minister stated they are working towards creating a Sustainable island state. He noted that the mandate of becoming a sustainable island state equals better living. Accordingly, he believes we must build towards that because you are complaining about the heat due to climate change.
Dr Terrance Drew noted that we have about 40% less rainfall this year alone. When compared to the same period of the previous year, this is a very problematic situation. The Prime Minister stated that climate change is upon us. And as a result, we have areas in St Kitts and Nevis, especially in my constituency, that have suffered from a significant decrease in rainfall.
Prime Minister Dr Drew stated that as a result, it’s affecting water availability. The prime minister said we are adamant that people in these areas must have water, as are all our people in St Kitts and Nevis. During the interview with music and Radio personality EK, prime minister Dr Drew talked about the government’s plans for the future.
PM Terrance Drew stated that they must have water, and we aim towards twenty-four-seven availability of accountable water, drinking water, and good water. Further, Dr Terrance Drew urged the people to let us be more mindful and responsible in water use.
The Prime Minister further added that it’s less than a year since we’ve been in office, and we are already tackling a legacy issue, a lack of water, especially in the Cayon area and, to some extent, St Peter’s area for the last seven years that the previous administration was there.
Dr Terrance Drew asserted that the previous administration did nothing to resolve the water issue in Cayon and St Peter’s or anywhere in St Kitts and Nevis. The previous administration was in power for the last seven years. Meanwhile, he stated that we have implemented three measures to deal with the water issue in less than a year.
The prime minister stated that the first step was bringing the company that drills for the water. He announced that the company is back on the island of, and they’re in the area physically drilling. He updated the drilling process for the people of St Kitts and Nevis. He stated that the drilling was going well. They have identified a spot that is very very likely to have water
The Prime Minister spoke about installing a desalination plant in the country so that the people of the country can have access to water 24/7 in the country. The team stated that they are also installing water storage facilities in the country. Dr Terrance Drew stated that it is sad that the people of St Kitts and Nevis do not have access to water 24/7.
He took the initiative to announce that they are taking significant efforts to bring the people of the country access to adequate water in the country.
