The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, accompanied his cabinet members to appear before the media for the July edition of the prime Minister’s press conference. The Prime Minister discussed the administration’s efforts to retain the cost of living for the country’s people in the post covid environment. The government has made efforts to curb the rising fuel prices and reduce the strain on the people’s pockets.
The Prime Minister stated that they are taking transformative steps to bring down the financial strain on the country’s people. These transformative steps include the introduction of concessions in the school supplies. The concession was started after the covid-9 pandemic in the country. The government sought to ease the financial strain on the families.
Dr Terrance Drew stated that after the concession, they hope the students will thrive and succeed academically. The government of St Kitts and Nevis, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, are also looking for ways to reduce food prices in the country. For this, Dr Drew announced that they had retained the prices of the food containers at the pre-covid numbers.
The prime Minister stated that they had made several adjustments to ascertain that the country’s people could continue to buy and afford food. In this regard, Dr Drew announced that the Minister of Agriculture, fisheries, and marine resources, et al., has been pushing for the 2025 agenda.
Under the agenda, Minister Duggins seeks to decrease food imports to the country by 25% by 2025. The Minister stated that he wants to increase the people’s dependency on home-grown crops and food items.
