The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, who handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Health in the federal government, recently hosted a meeting with the senior healthcare officials in St Kitts and Nevis and other healthcare industry stakeholders of the healthcare industry. The meeting was held at St Kitt’s Marriott Resort on Wednesday, March 8.
The representatives of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) interacted with the Prime Minister, members and stakeholders of the healthcare industry. During the meeting, the attendants discussed Universal Health Insurance and the construction of the new smart hospital in St Kitts and Nevis.
The conference featured healthcare industry pioneers such as Dr Amalia Del Riego, who serves as a representative of PAHO/World Health Organization from PAHO’s Eastern Caribbean Office, Dr Guillermo Sandoval, who serves as the Advisor of the Health Economics and Financing Office of the Subregional Program Coordination Caribbean PAHO – World Health Organization.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew asserted that he aims to provide affordable, quality healthcare to the people of St Kitts and Nevis. He seeks to strengthen the Healthcare sector of St Kitts and Nevis, which will be instrumental in ensuring that every resident and citizen of St Kitts and Nevis will have access to healthcare facilities.
The meeting hosted on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, focused on the theme, ‘Transforming the Health Systems of St Kitts and Nevis with focus on Health Financing’. During the discussions, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew noted that in 2023, the government would take up their most ambitious project for making healthcare accessible to the people: The construction of a new smart hospital.
Dr Terrance Drew asserted the need for taking the initiative of universal healthcare and the need for the construction of a smart hospital. In line with this, Dr Amalia Del Riego, representative of PAHO/WHO, has promised her cooperation in assisting St Kitts and Nevis to achieve their commitment of providing quality healthcare to the people of St Kitts and Nevis.
