Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, who also handles responsibility for the ministry of Health, recently received a courtesy call from Dr Amalia Del Riego, PAHO/WHO Representative for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Countries, and Anneke Wilson, Country Program Specialist, for St Kitts and Nevis.
The two international representatives met with the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. During the meeting, PM Dr Terrance Drew interacted with the two leaders regarding several issues of regional and international importance. The visit of the Pan American Health Organization and World Health Organization is crucial for the furthering of the relationship between the government of St Kitts and Nevis and the PAHO.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Sharon Archibald and the Chief Medical Officer of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Hazel Laws, were also present with Prime Minister Dr Terrance during the crucial meeting. Prime Minister Dr Drew shared glimpses of the meeting through his social media account.
Further, Dr Drew noted that after concluding the meeting with him and the ministry of health officials, Dr Amalia Del Riego visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to present her Letter of Credentials to Dr Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, international trade and commerce, et al. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew shared some images from the interactions between Dr Douglas and the PAHO/WHO representative.
Finally, Dr Terrance Drew informed the people of St Kitts and Nevis that the day of activities concluded after Dr Amalia Del Riego visited the Joseph N France General Hospital for the Unveiling of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Plaque. The plaque signified that JNF General Hospital was the third hospital in the region to achieve the status of Baby Friendly Certified. Following this, Dr Del Riego participated in the official handover of the PCR Machine and a tour of the Mental Health Treatment Centre.
