Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew attended the 17th Annual Cuban Alumni Classes; 2020, 2021 & 2022 Graduation Ceremony on October 29, 2022. the authorities hosted the ceremony at the Cuna Conference Room.

Along with the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, a graduate of a university in Cuba and a medical doctor, the event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr Geoffery Hanley. Additionally, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr Denzil Douglas and Junior Minister of Education in the sister island of Nevis, Troy Liburd, were also in attendance at the event.

Past Graduates, Friends and Resident ambassadors of Cuba to St Kitts and Nevis, David Riviero, also attended the event.

The former Prime Minister of the federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas, shared an update from the event. In the update, he shared some glimpses of the event through photographs.

Additionally, Dr Douglas termed the proceedings of the event as wonderful.

Following this, Minister Douglas went down memory lane in his Facebook post. He provided a history lesson, he talked about the beginning of the relationship between the two nations.

Reportedly, the Labour Administration took office in July 1995. The Government of then Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas accepted Scholarships from the Cuban Government.

In 1997 more than 25 young Kittitians and Nevisians travelled from the federation of St Kitts and Nevis to pursue Tertiary Level Education in several disciplines at Universities in Cuba.

In the Facebook post, Dr Douglas termed this event (in 1997) as the beginning of something Good,

Further, Dr Douglas stated that he was highly pleased to see that it has continued over the years even though the economic hardships have deepened combined with the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Further, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has expressed his gratitude to the Government of Cuba for its continued generosity in helping to build the human resource capacity of St Kitts and Nevis.
