The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, attended a social gathering hosted by Embassy of Cuba in St Kitts and Nevis and the St. Kitts and Nevis Cuban Alumni Association on Saturday, August 27, 2022. During the event, he spoke highly of the contributions made by the Cuban Community in the developmental avenues of St Kitts and Nevis.
The Prime Minister, who became the first medical doctor trained in Cuba to serve as the country’s prime minister, said St Kitts and Nevis will always value its cordial relationship with the Republic of Cuba.
The event was attended by St. Kitts and Nevis’ Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, David Rivero Perez and his wife; Mr Hollis Prentice, The President of St. Kitts and Nevis Cuban Alumni Association; Mrs Telca Wallace, President of St. Kitts and Nevis Cuba Friendship Association, Cubans living in St Kitts and NevisCuban graduates, , and other special guests.
Prime Minister Dr Drew revealed that since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1995, St Kitts and Nevis had benefited tremendously from its relationship with Cuba, particularly regarding the educational opportunities available to the people.
He thanked the representatives of Cuba and the country itself for providing the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis the opportunities to evolve into learners and thorough professionals. He also talked about the difference in the cultures of the two countries and how, despite the differences, the countries manage to retain their excellent relations.
Prime Minister Dr Drew also noted that many of the trained professionals in Cuba left lasting impressions on the development of St Kitts and Nevis.
More than 100 citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis have benefited from professional training at various universities in Cuba, in areas like medicine and medical sciences, economics, and engineering, among many other fields. Presently, there are over two dozen students pursuing their career education in Cuba.
Dr Drew also used the occasion to repeat the commitment of his government to continue and foster even closer ties between the two countries
