Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew has announced that the OECS nations have been working together to launch the regional regulatory body within one month. TThe aim of the regulatory body is to oversee Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programmes in the sub-region.
The idea of a regulatory body was brought forth in the Eastern Caribbean region to make sure that the quality of the Citizenship by Investment Programme in the country. The officials have shared that this development is being hailed as a major milestone.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew said that the regional regulatory body which has been constituted to oversee CBI Programmes will help improve regional cooperation, economic governance, and international transparency. Dr Drew made these remarks during a radio interview with the local media.
The Prime Minister claimed that the regulatory body will start functioning in one month. The Minister also highlighted that the regulatory body will help programmes improve their due diligence procedures.
The nations will be able to work on standards of compliance which will be upheld equally by every member state. This will help in improving the credibility of the citizenship by investment programmes.
Dr Drew acknowledged that the Citizenship by Investment Programme is very important for the economic prosperity of the region. PM Drew highlighted that it is very important for the leadership to work together on this mandate.
The Prime Minister has shared that it is important for the administration of the OECS CBI nations to come to an agreement with respect to the uniform standards. PM Terrance Drew noted that the OECS member states will be working closely with international stakeholders like the EU, the UK, the United States of America.
These international partners will be monitoring the progress of this mandate. Terrance Drew also highlighted the scrutiny that the CBI Nations are facing recently in terms of travel restrictions. He noted that this does not surprise him and that he was already preparing the country for this eventuality.
