Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, has extended his best wishes and congratulations to Desnarine Hanley for receiving a scholarship to Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, worth EC$108,000.00 for her higher education.
Desnarine Hanley was crowned as the 2023 Carnival Queen on 28 December 2023, earning a scholarship, and 2nd Runner Up was Miss St Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank St Kitts-Nevis Anguilla National Bank Limited- Azariah Vanterpool – 845 points.
Miss TDC Group of Companies Ltd TDC Group of Companies – Miss Desanne Maynard, with 859 points, was crowned the first runner-up.
Desnarine Hanley has created history as she is the first national recipient of a full EC $108,000 4-year scholarship to Southern University. Apart from the crown and the scholarship, she also received a $20,000 cheque.
St Kitts and Nevis, labour part members, have also extended their gratitude to all the participants who have participated in the St Kitts and Nevis Queen pageant.
Minister Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Economic Development and Investment, has taken to Facebook and shared the picture of St Kitts and Nevis Gueen crowning moments.
He wrote, “Congratulations to Queen Desnarine Hanley, Miss St.Kitts and Nevis 2023-2024 and amassed 916 points. She received a four-year scholarship, EC$108,000, from Southern University. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr Geoffrey Hanley, also took to social media and congratulated all the participants.
Deputy Prime Minister wrote, “l am glad to have witnessed the crowning of our new National Carnival Queen, Desnarine Hanley, with a total of 916 points. Along with the coveted crown, Queen Hanley is also the first national recipient of a full EC $108,000 4-year scholarship to Southern University. Congrats to our new Queen and all the winners and participants.
