PM Dr Terrance Drew chairs first-ever 'Day of Interruption' and visits Washington Archibald High School

Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr Terrance Drew chaired the first-ever Day of Interruption on Wednesday, February 26th, 2025, organized through the Citizen Security Task Force (CSTF). The hosted event was a national student intervention initiative which was launched to stop crime and violence while encouraging safer communities across the Federation.

Several government officials, community leaders, law enforcement, local influencers, and business leaders attended primary and secondary school assemblies and shared words of encouragement and personal life experiences to motivate students in making positive life choices.

PM Drew was one of the keynote speakers at Washington Archibald High School. He said during the assembly that the government is fully committed to create a safe learning environment where students can grow and contribute to building St Kitts and Nevis into a sustainable island state.

He further addressed the issue of peer pressure and said that it is one of the things that lead people to do bad things and encouraged the students to resist peer pressure and to not do anything that is or feels wrong.

Co-chair of CSTF, Isalean Phillip appreciated the speakers and community volunteers who responded to the call to help stop violence and aggression from spreading among the youth. 

She said that the main objective of inviting people from different parties, criminal justice system and community leaders as special guests at different schools was to help spread the campaign message to make sure that they find a long-term solution to stop crime and violence.

Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley appreciates the initiative

Minister of Education and Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Geoffrey Hanley appreciated the initiative to engage students through presentations to share positive and insightful messages to inspire positive change among the youth and promote a safe and peaceful environment.

Minister Dr Denzil Douglas visits Saddlers Secondary School 

Foreign Minister, Dr Denzil Douglas joined the staff and students of the Saddlers Secondary School for the Day of Interruption and discussed with them the dangers of crime and violence on the community and country.

He also shared some glimpses from his meeting with the students on his official Facebook page and wrote an encouraging acronym of CALM:-

  • C – Choose Wisely: Surround yourself with positive influences and make smart decisions
  • A – Act Responsibly: Think before you act. Be accountable and resist negative pressure
  • L – Learn & Lead: Education is your power-keep learning and be a role model
  • M – Move Forward: Setbacks don’t define you. Stay focused on your goals and future

Minister Samal Duggins visits Tyrell Williams Primary and Verchilds High School

Minister of Sports and Creative Economy Samal Duggins attended the assembly at Tyrell Williams Primary School and Verchilds High School as part of the Day of Interruption. 

He also shared a post on his official Facebook account and said that he sees potential in their youth and it is their duty to guide them towards a brighter, more positive path.
