One Movement Government of PAM and CCM have great plans for the culture and Creative Industries of St Kitts and Nevis following their election as the people’s representatives in the upcoming elections.
The two political parties proudly acknowledge that the Culture and Creative Industries of St Kitts and Nevis are the lifeblood of the orange economy. These industries include advertising, arts and crafts, design, fashion, film, video, photography, music, performing arts, publishing, software, computer games, and TV/radio.
The One Movement also understands that the culture and creative industries are also an important source of commercial and cultural value.
Consequently, in their manifesto the two parties have pledged to create the infrastructure and programmes to help provide funding and incentives to empower the people of St Kitts and Nevis to monetize their skills and hobbies. The political parties aim to promote and export their indigenous brands and products.
PAM and CCM plan to achieve this by building a state-of-the-art Music and Arts Academy through a Public-Private Partnership structure. In addition to a music and recording studio, the Academy will develop connections and bring in expert practitioners to teach and train the people of St Kitts and Nevis.
In the music and Arts academy, training will be available in music theory, songwriting, sound engineering, videography, photography, dance etc.
Further, the One Movement intends to establish a special fund for developing the country’s creative arts, culture and entertainment. The fund will also help budding artists, musicians, songwriters, etc., build their craft and unique talents from which they can earn a living.
The joint government also seeks to introduce a functional “creative industries ministry”, which will be constituted as a part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Culture. The department will be responsible for supporting the needs and interests of the up-and-coming artists in St Kitts and Nevis.
Creatives will be encouraged to access the Dream Fund to hire employees, develop their craft, and support the creation of multimedia products for the consumption of local, regional and international audiences.
The One Movement will tap into its existing entertainment and cultural landscape to identify areas that need capacity-building and training. They would also work on sourcing opportunities for locals to work, showcase their work and be appreciated by the people who visit St Kitts and Nevis.
PAM and CCM will provide support to individuals, NGOs and other stakeholders interested in documenting, preserving and marketing the cultural and historical journey of St Kitts and Nevis.
