One Movement Government of PAM and CCM have announced their plans for the future of Tourism Industry of St Kitts and Nevis following their victory in the upcoming general elections.
The two political parties of the One Movement Government acknowledge St Kitts and Nevis’ potential as a tourist attraction. The One movement government shows how significant the tourism industry’s contribution is to the country’s GDP.
Consequently, in their “One Movement Manifesto“, the political parties have pledged to transform the Tourism sector into a more globally competitive tourism product through people-centred and environmentally sound tourism.
The One Movement commits to exploring routes beyond traditional markets and diversify our offerings to contain various fields of tourism, for instance, community-based tourism, sports tourism, education tourism, health and wellness tourism and business tourism.
According to their Manifesto, the One Movement Government plans to achieve that by:
- Boosting our presence in our established markets of the UK & USA through more productive marketing and brand presence in the respective capitals.
- Creating a new ‘Tourist Season’ by extending the promotion of the destination in the Southern Hemisphere to entice a new cadre of visitors from Argentina, and Chile, among others, in our off-season.
- Undertaking a program to develop new tourism products for St. Kitts and Nevis
- Growing our tourism marketing budget by 25% to guarantee better brand presence in our local and source markets.
Land Based Tourism
- Publicizing high-end and stay-over visitors by facilitating and encouraging investment in small to midsize luxury hotels and villas
- Undertaking programs to develop new tourism products across the country
- Promoting the Airbnb sector as an integral part of our tourism product
- Creating a Training Hub for young people to prepare them for employment within the tourism sectors
- Facilitating the creation of deeper linkages with locals to ensure that they receive increased service contracts in the tourism sector
Community Tourism
- Expanding the indigenous experiences in our respective communities for visitors to enjoy the uniqueness of St. Kitts and Nevis as a core component of our tourism product.
- Providing incentives for the community residents with ideas and business plans to transform their indigenous tourism offerings to provide unique tourism experiences.
Sports Tourism
- Facilitating the usage of Warner Park as a tourism hub for Regional and international cricket and football so that we can attract more visitors.
- Providing assistance to SMEs who wish to enter the tourism niche markets
- Bidding for international sporting festivals to attract more visitors to our shores
Heritage Tourism
- Identifying and upgrading the existing historical, geographical, archaeological sites and attractions so that they can be offered as our tourism product.
- Improving the infrastructure and offerings at the Craft Markets in St. Kitts & Nevis.
Entertainment Tourism
- Promoting St. Kitts & Nevis as a destination for the filming of movies, documentaries, commercials, and TV Shows.
