Minister of Public Infrastructure and Utilities, and Post et al, Konris Maynard was honoured with a Sugar Mas award for his contributions to the national carnival.
After winning the SPIRIT OF CARNIVAL AWARD for Calypso and Soca, Minister Maynard, most renowned in the calypso circles by the name King Konris, took to his social media.
In the Facebook post, Maynard expressed that he was honoured to receive the award for his achievements in the National Carnival. The national Carnival Committee of St Kitts and Nevis recognized Konris Maynard for winning:
Won Junior Calypso Monarch in 1996-97 & 1997-98 (2 times)
Won Senior Calypso in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, and 2012 (6 times)
Won Road March in 2010-11 with Unstoppable Force (once)
Won Soca Monarch in 2005, 2007, and 2010 (3 times)
Shamara Morton-Maynard, the wife of Minister Maynard, collected his award from the SKNNCC on his behalf.
The Minister of Public Infrastructure expressed his gratitude to the members of his support team. In his words, Konris Maynard wrote: Although I wrote, composed, arranged and produced all my Calypsos, many had invaluable inputs along the way.
THANK YOU TO ALL who contributed in any way to my success. The list is long, but Konris Maynard publicly extended his gratitude to some key members of my critique and logistics team.
The list included the names of
- Shamara Morton-Maynard – The winning minister stated that his wife is his ultimate test and fiercest critic.
- Linkon Contenda Maynard – Konris referred to him as a catalogue of Calypso wisdom. According to Minister Maynard, No song is started or completed without Firstly being vetted by the Mighty Contenda.
- Verlyn Maynard – His mother, was the first person to help me in my calypso career.
- Janielle and Lynicia Maynard – His sisters, are his samplers. They get to listen to and critique samples of the songs, so Maynard knows how they will play in public.
- Harold X Maynard – Uncle Junie helped with concept critique and was generally responsible for competition live performance logistics.
He expressed gratitude to two long-time colleagues who provided terrific insight and frank critique to keep his songs grounded and connected to the masses.
He also thanked all musicians and performers who ever worked with him on the stage and the road.
