St Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) hosted the first edition of the Sugar Mas Awards on Saturday, November 13, 2022. St Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee took to their social media pages to share the update. According to the SKNNCC, the event will take place at the Marriott Ball Room.
During the event, hosted on the weekend, sixty stakeholders of the Sugar Mas will be honoured for their contribution to the Sugar Mas Carnival for more than half a century. (51 years)
According to the announcement of the SKNNCC, the show will go live at 7:00 PM via the Facebook and YouTube channels. They have also scheduled a pre-show. The pre-show will start at 6:45
Further, the SKNCC revealed that the awards would consist of Six (6) categories. These awards will be presented to individuals and organizations participating, promoting, and supporting National Carnival at various levels.
First Catagory:
GOLD STANDARD will provide special recognition to individuals who have rendered meritorious service to National Carnival continually throughout their lifetime and at various levels.
Second Catagory:
POINCIANA recognizes and rewards those who receive first place in a National Carnival event.
Third Catagory:
ROYAL SCEPTRE award catagory will recognize the National Carnival and Talented Teen Queens who achieved “victories” in Regional or International Pageants.

STEWARD OF CARNIVAL was awarded to individuals and entities for their consistent exemplary assistance for production and promotion of National Carnival.
The sugar Mas Award Panel presented the fifth category of awards, SPIRIT OF CARNIVAL, to individuals or entities who demonstrate excellence, consistency, and longevity in the growth and development of the National Carnival in various areas.
The final category of Awards
SWEET STRINGS will be awarded to musician bands for their musical excellence and National Carnival promotion.
Meanwhile, the SKNNCCA has revealed in their update that The Sugar Mas Awards will feature an “In Memoriam” segment which will pay tribute to several dearly departed national carnival talents.
According to a SKNNCC spokesperson, “The SMAs is an excellent initiative as it will allow carnival lovers to celebrate the achievements of individuals who contributed consistently and significantly (to the carnival).
Further the spokesperson revealed that There are so many individuals and entities to be honoured for their contributions that it will take the Carnival Committee about 3 to 5 years to pay tribute to everyone who worked tirelessly in the categories mentioned earlier over the 51 years.
The spokesperson said, “There is no better time to begin. We endeavour to have the SMAs each year prominently featured on the National Carnival calendar”.
