Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, attended the installation ceremony hosted in the honor of the first female Governor-General of St Kitts and Nevis. Marcella Liburd, who was the fifth governor general to be sworn into office following the country’s independence, was administered the oath of office by the resident judge of the high court, Tamara Gill.
Meanwhile, talking about the significance of the event, Dr Terrance Drew took to his social media to share that he was present at the government house to witness a historic moment in our nation’s history. The moment in question was the installation of the 5th Governor-General of St Kitts and Nevis She is the first female to hold this position, Marcella Liburd.
Elaborating on the significance of the event, Dr Terrance Drew noted that, Indeed such an event is extremely important for the nation. The installation ceremony marked a significant milestone in the history of the country.
Dr Drew further observed in his social media account that Equity strengthens our ability to survive and build strong and vibrant societies. At the same time, he noted that This ‘glass ceiling’ shattered marks a great step in that direction of ensuring that our country joins the group where we are striving to establish Equity as far as possible on the topic of gender.
Dr Terrance Drew extended his gratitude to Marcella Liburd, with “with a great depth of grattitude.” He recounted that over the years, Governor General Liburd has been one who has contributed more to public life than anybody in various capacities here in St.Kitts and Nevis.
Dr Terrance Drew further expressed in his social media post that her life of scarifice and dedication to the common good is highly commendable. Elaborating that her life also serves as a stark example not only to women but for all of us in this country.
